About Daan

With his expressive sound, lyrical improvisations, and narrative compositions, saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Daan Kluwer (Utrecht, 1998) is one of the most promising talents in the Dutch music scene.

Daan graduated cum laude from Codarts Rotterdam in 2023 and is at the beginning of a brilliant musical career. He is a sought-after sideman and soloist in both large and small ensembles. He has been part of various leading orchestras such as the Jong Metropole, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO), and the New Composers Pool. He is also part of several jazz ensembles including Klankpoeder, Where’s Dillie and the Loet van der Lee Quintet.

His talent has not gone unnoticed. He was the subject of the NTR documentary New Generation, and has also been invited as a Young Hero at Podium Klassiek.

About His Quintet

Explosive, surreal, compelling, The Life of Billy takes you to a world that feels both futuristic and disturbingly close. Inspired by the ominous visions of George Orwell and Kurt Vonnegut, their music sounds like a dystopian harbinger of what lies ahead. From dreamy synths to relentless drum-'n-bass grooves, their instrumental music speaks without words-raw and urgent.

Indie jazz, krautrock, electronica

Inspired by Radiohead, Boards of Canada, Talking Heads.
